Life Legacy
James Minor Holley Sr. was born on August 5, 1918 to William Minor Holley and Ellie Catoe in Kershaw, South Carolina. James was a patriotic individual that shared his passion for life with other organizations as well. He was a member of New Harvest Baptist Church, a Mason for 52 years, and a Brother of Latham Lodge #12 in Austell.
James joined the army and retired after 20 years of devoted service in 1961. He served his country in World War II and the Korean Conflict. After retiring, James remained close to the military. He worked in logistics as a Technical Advisor for the United States government for 18 years, retiring in 1979.
James married Eunice Nettles who was his partner for 66 long years until she passed away in 2008. They had two children, James and Susan, who carry on their legacy along with their children, James, Lisa, Jennifer, and Brian.
James Minor Holley Sr. came to rest at the age of 91 on Sunday, July 4, 2010. This Independence Day will forever be remembered for his family and friends as the day that James was freed from this world and left to his eternal home in heaven.
Survivors include his son, James Holley Jr. and wife Beverly of Dahlonega;
daughter, Susan and husband Bruce Johnson of Marietta; sister Martha Rector of Columbia, SC; brother, Byron Holley of West Palm Beach, Florida; and four grandchildren, James Holley III, Lisa Holley, Jennifer and husband Mike Lanxton and Brian and wife Christina Johnson.
James was preceded in death by his father William Minor Holley; mother Ellie Catoe; and beloved wife, Eunice Nettles Holley.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 1 o'clock pm at Gene Davis - White Columns Funeral Chapel in Mableton with Pastor Dennis Cooke officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens Mausoleum following the service.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 6 o'clock pm to 8 o'clock pm.
